Lightning Lanes Summary
Modified By black phantom on 2/12/2009 11:57:12 AM)

Contrary to popular belief lightning lanes was not doing so well(if this gets deleted I’ll just repost it) it all started out fine until Ike derailed a lot of plans and projections for the year. Once that happened the attitude from the "owners" doomed it for failure they treated it like their own personal money machine. All that really was accomplished was lanes 1 & 2 are whole and functioning again, the center has new paint, and everything that was removed last time has been restored. The scoring is another matter it really needed to be updated and the monitors replaced, however the money slated for it and the beer & wine license went into more frivolous things like an Icee machine, strobe, disco, and holiday lites. Things that were needed were forsaken for things that were wanted. When problems occurred instead of fixing them they were ignored and forgotten, like the drain for the coke dispenser it was jerry rigged and ignored until it started leaking worse than before, then it was fixed. When employees bust their tails to be a good host for a tournament like SASBA do they get “a pat on the back or a well done" no they get reamed out when they get a lower x-amount of money from the tournament director than the projected amount from the tournament, when they were looking for a host house. Do you think that ensures confidence or loyalty in an employee from an employer, no it doesn't. In my opinion if the next owners or lessees want to make money they will rehire the current employees because the center did make money but the “owners” spent it unwisely and thus the downfall of Lightning Lanes.

Black Phantom,

I don't know who you are but as an employee I thought we did a good job with what we had, however I will not go into details, except for this the SASBA tourney, sweeper, and pro-am were learning experiences for everyone involved. I thought we did a good job(except for some minor lane problems) w/ the seniors being real understanding and fairly patient. I personally got to meet some guys I grew up watching on the ABC Pro Bowlers Tour & I really liked that. They were one of the nicest group of bowlers I'd ever met.

Re: Lightning Lanes Summary

I agree with you things were ignored and the "owners" had better things to do with their money instead of reinvesting in the Center.  They had a great staff and "if' left alone to run the business could have made a sucess but people get greedy where money is concerned.   From what I hear the owners of the strip center are going to take the Center back over and has asked for the staff to come back.  Hopefully this will happen and it will be a sucess.  I feel sorry for the League bowlers that did decide to come back, what is going to happen to them?

Re: Lightning Lanes Summary

The Wednesday league was contacted by their secretary last week and they will be contacted again concerning starting right up again after the center re-opens.

The only other option for the leagues is to meet and disburse the prize money and not restart.

Since the center is reopening I don't see why they don't just keep bowling after a week off...

I hope the building owners are able to find someone to run things successfully.

In my opinion, the entire lease/ rent/ whatever deal that is in place is what is wrong with that situation.

The building owners running it themselves seems to be the best option.  I'm not sure why they have been hesitant to sell the entire strip...

Oh well, not for me to say.

Bet wishes to the place when it reopens.

Re: Lightning Lanes Summary

If the center re-opens within a week, then the Wednesday night league has been asked to come back and finish the league. I for all agree to come back and finish. If not, then it will be called and paid out. It would be great to continue bowling here and see progress made. Not sure what staff will come back, but hopefully next week, may know something.
