Roger Louis Banks was born to Melba and Royce Banks in Pasadena, Texas on September 20, 1961 ; he has one brother, Royce and two sisters, Donna and Kathy. He has been blessed with two beautiful daughters, the loves of his life, Meredith, age 6 and Makayla, age 8. Roger attended high school at C.E. King and graduated from U of H in 1983 with a BS in Education. He teaches 8th Grade History and also is a football and track coach at North Shore High School. Roger was initiated to bowling at the old Federal Lanes at the age of 8, even though his parents wanted him to concentrate his sports activities on baseball and tennis, he chose bowling. He enjoyed it more and as an added bonus, more girls were bowling than played baseball or tennis. By the age of 17, he had improved his skills to a point that had enabled him to roll a couple of 700’s. This was no small accomplishment prior to today’s improved equipment, but the more impressive one was the third which was a 772 which resulted in an AJBC National Top Ten Series Award. When asked if he was thinking about bowling the 800, he said he was only thinking that if he bowled a 700 higher than the previous two, he would receive another AJBC medal. At the age of 21, he decided to join the pro ranks. In January, 1983 he and Charlie Falco went to PBA School in Cleveland , OH and after a difficult week, obtained their license. They also obtained some valuable knowledge; it gets cold in January if you go north of Conroe; neither of them had taken a coat. Roger’s most cherished bowling memory occurred in 1990. His Mother had only watched him bowl a few times over the years and on this night, while she was in fact extremely ill, he bowled a 300 game. His Mother passed away just one month later. His bowling resume’ is quite impressive with 16- 300 games, 4- 299’s, 4- 298’s and 6- 800 series (855 high). In addition to 11- 11-in-a-row awards, he has a composite 226+ average for the last 10 years, with a high of 230. He has the House Record @ Diamond Lanes with his 855 bowled in 1999. He has been a Team member for City Record scores for game and series (1311, 3639), has several top finishes to his credit in City, State and Nationals tournaments. Roger has served on the Pasadena B.A. Board, including as a VP and has served as a league President or Secretary many times over the years. You will never meet a more honest, pleasant and complete gentleman. For that; he should be most proud. |
