Sunday
Dyan (Faulkner) Evans
Sunday Dyan (Faulkner) Evans was born to Jewel Thomas (Bud) & Bertha May Faulkner on a Navaho Indian Reservation in Ganado , Arizona on March 26, 1966 . After a short time in Missouri , the Faulkner’s moved to Houston in 1975. Having two much older brothers Rick (deceased) and Chip, Sunday was introduced to many sports. Her childhood passions included softball and she also played saxophone in concert and marching band until she graduated from J. Frank Dobie High School in 1984. Sunday’s introduction to bowling came when her boss at Eckerd’s invited her to join a league. Being only 17, she needed parental consent and “Daddy’s Permission”. After begging and taking him to Mimosa Lanes to prove times had changed, he signed consent but, not before ensuring she was to call home as she arrived and when she left. Looking back and considering the role bowling has played in her life, this turned out to be a small price to pay. Soon after, it happened…she met Mike Fravel and “The Twins”, Jimmy and David Fields. It took her a while to realize that there were in fact two of them! In 1985, Sunday and Jimmy were married. Their son Jeremy was born in 1986. After four years of marriage, Jimmy and Sunday divorced and remain best friends today; David and Mike have been wonderful additions as true brothers in her life. Sunday had met Jimbo Evans during the mid ‘80s and they reunited and married in 1990. This union took them to other centers including Alvin, Spencer Square and both Armadilla’s. After several years of trying, they were blessed with a daughter, Jericka Jewel in 1998. Sunday’s two main goals in bowling were to spare the Greek Church and bowl a 300 game. She has been fortunate enough to do both. Her bowling resume includes Most Improved and High Average in several leagues. She has awards for 11 in a Row (297), 298, 299 and 300 (accomplished in succession) in 1999-2000; she had high average (203) in the PWBA and was named Bowler of the Year. She also holds one PWBA City Team Title (2002) and two Houston WBA City Team titles (2000 & 2001). Until just recently, she averaged 200+. Sunday’s fondest bowling memory was April 19, 2001 when she shot her 300. Although her daddy was no longer living, she prayed for him to give her the strength to get her feet to the foul line on the 12th ball. He walked along side her, she let go of the ball, and all of the pins fell! She turned around, raised her hands and said “Thank you Daddy, I know you are here right this minute and you saw it all!” Sunday has delighted in sharing the successes of Jimbo and watching Jeremy begin his own outstanding biography. Softball is again entering her life as Jericka is playing for the first time this year. Being a mother is Sunday’s greatest accomplishment and her family is her greatest reward! |
